I Am the One Who Knocks (And No One is Home)

oh god ali

So, I’m only now getting into Breaking Bad (I know, shut up, I am the one who knocks last apparently), and found this picture, and turned to show it to my much-farther-into-the-show-than-I-am sister.

She smiled, but looked a bit confused, so I said “It’s blue rock candy,” because that’s probably the only confusing part of the picture.

She gave me a look, and, still smiling, said,

“But why does the baby have a goatee?”

She thought the baby was supposed to be a leprechaun.

A leprechaun guys, a Leprechaun.

She says she worries that she’s living inside of a blonde joke sometimes.

To those in the know of my other blog posts, you can find my sister, Lexy, at the link in her name.

Dorkyness is not a Competition, but Something to be Shared

I like to peruse the various pictures in deviantart, and one of my faourite artists is humon (see in my favourite links, to the right>>).

One picture she did was this one HERE and I commented that “lol, think me a dork for this, but Mr. Morse looks like thge beast from Ben 10, with some extra parts :D” to which someone else replied “Which one? Most of Ben 10 is made up of beasts like this…you mean Wildmutt, the orange one? You dorky? I’m sure I’m much worse than you :)

I thought that that was a rather odd thought… What really makes one bit of dorkishness ‘worse’ (or ‘better’ in other cases) than others?

Of the things that could make me ‘dorky’ (and I say this with much pride and a smile–this is not an insult), I could include that I read fanfiction, write fanfiction, watch a lot of anime, read a lot of manga, and am a huge English fan (I particularly like Shakespearian insults). Oh, I also am a huge YouTube Nerd (NERDFIGHTERS UNITE!). And that is only naming a few things off the top of my head.

I may not be as ‘bad‘ as someone who cosplays, Though I’ve gone to FanExpo, and I may be ‘worse‘ than someone who only reads fanfiction in the fact that I also write it.

In the opposite way, I may be ‘better‘ than someone who only watches anime since I also read manga, And I may not be as ‘good‘ as someone who uses regular Shakespear quotes in day-to-day conversation.

Really, I could be either better or worse for reading and writing blogs than someone who doesn’t, or I could be better or worse than someone who vlogs.

Really, I don’t think that dorkyness is a competition, but something shared.

You share your dorkyness as you share your weirdness, you share your weirdness as you share your quirks, and you share your nerdyness  and all that’s included with friends and others and gain stronger friends for it.

During Frosh Week, when we went to the Bat Cave (an Alcove by Simard aptly named by a fellow dorky nerd :D) some guys behind me kept shouting things like “School SUCKS!” and “Down with NERDS!!!” and other such nonsense. The only reason I didn’t turn around and ask them what the hell their problem was–aside from the fact that I generally don’t go for confrontations unless I have reached a certain limit to my stupidity patience– was the knowledge that they are missing out.

They look down on writers (fanfiction writers, bloggers, and novelists and others) because they don’t like to read anything that isn’t out of a magazine, on facebook/twitter, or in a playboy magazine (cause you know they get those for the articles ;P). They’re missing out on some of the best books out there, and some of the awesomest people who write them. They are also the awesome people who writ songs that make you smile, like Weird Al Yankovic, and The Arrogant Worms.

They look down on cosplayers even as they look at the busty anime girls and think ‘thats hot’. They don’t see that there are people out there who dress up like these characters, and probably can’t imagine that some of the go so far as to tape their boobs to the side to cosplay a guy (see Leekaara on deviant art, HERE ), and GO OUT IN PUBLIC. You’re missing out dudes.

“You spend too much time on YouTube, and why should I know about this?” You’re missing out on SO many things, Tobuscus and VlogBrothers included.

You guys are missing out.

Dont be a NerdHater and hate nerds, be a NerdFighter and fight for nerds!

Also, You suck for deciding it’s ‘cool’ to yell about hating school and about how nerds suck. Even if we do suck, the ‘yaoi’ and ‘slash’ fans will tell you that at least they aren’t so stuck in the closet they won’t admit they swallow as well, as you obviously do.

Google it.

Ciao~
